1. Introduction and General Information
This method statement provides the details of materials, equipment, procedure and relevant documents grass sods on the embankment, including quality control verifications, measurement verifications, and also the safety precautions to be implemented at site for this work.
1.1. Location of Works
The location of the grassing will be selected by consultation with Engineer.
2. Materials
The major materials used for turfing work, but are not limited to the following.
* Grass Sods
* Water
*Top soil
*Fertilizer (if required)
3. Equipment
The major equipment used for the ground preparation of sod fixing and providing grass cover, but are not limited to the following.
* JCB,
*Tractor & Trailer
* Water Bowser
*Other minor tools
4. Safety Management and Control
Safety precaution will be taken complying with the Road Work Traffic Control Manual. Every precautions will be taken avoid any damages to adjoining properties.
5. Method and Procedures
Following procedure will be used to sod fixing on the embankment.
5.1 The locations of the embankment slop and earth drains will be set out complying with the construction drawings, schedules or instructed by Engineer.
5.2 Then earth drain excavation will be done after getting the engineers consent by mean of manually or mechanically. All the necessary precautions will be taken to avoid any damages to adjoining properties during excavation.
5.3 After getting the approval from the engineer for the embankment slop, top soil will be speeded uniformly on the embankment.
5.4 Grass sods will be of living vigorous growth and contained in suitable sods and free from weeds. The Engineer’s approval for grass sods will be taken prior to lay the grass sods on the embankment.
5.5 After laying and joint filling, sods shall be tamped in an approved manner to provide an even surface. Turefed area shall be cure until the grass cover is grown.
6. Quality Control
Several inspections and verifications will be carried out as described in the above method and procedures to ensure that the steps of the procedure are fully complied with during grass laying.
7. Measurement Control
Site measurements will be carried out and recorded during the course of the works as indicated in the above procedures. The measurements of turfed are will be taken off by means of joint site measurements.
